Highlights from the recent ACR congress, held November 3-9, 2021.

Experts give their thoughts and insights from the ACR congress:

Vaccine Updates: multiple sessions covered vaccinations for patients with rheumatological diseases, including updates on COVID-19 vaccine efficacy and safety

JAK Inhibitors: real-world data regarding the efficacy and safety of JAK inhibitors were featured in multiple presentations

Patient Reported Outcomes (PROs): many sessions covered PROs, discussing improving assessment methods, incorporation into telehealth, and reporting data from clinical trials

Comprehensive Treatment Approach: new strategies for implementing a comprehensive treatment approach including treat-to-target, incorporating patient perspectives, and a comprehensive care team were discussed

Professor Paul Emery
Leeds Institute of Rheumatic and Musculoskeletal Medicine, UK

Professor Emery is Versus Arthritis Professor of Rheumatology and Director of the Leeds Biomedical Research Centre. He specializes in the pathogenesis and immunotherapy of immune mediated inflammatory diseases. In addition to publishing widely (>1200 peer reviewed articles) he served as EULAR president from 2009-2011 and has been on the editorial board of multiple rheumatology journals.

Professor Corominas is director of the rheumatology department at Hospital Universitari de Sant Pau & Hospital Dos de Maig in Barcelona, Spain. He is the current president of the Societat Catalana de Reumatologia, and previously served on the EULAR Standing Committee for Epidemiology and Health Services. His areas of specialty include musculoskeletal ultrasounds, biological therapy, and pharmacogenetics for autoimmune diseases.
