IBD Training Academy

Module 1

Module 1 Review

From mechanism of disease (MoD) to mechanism of action (MoA)

Welcome to the first module of the IBD Training Academy, hosted by Dr Flavio Caprioli and Professor Stefan Schreiber. Module 1 will explore the rationale for different treatment targets in IBD and patient populations who may benefit most from different treatment classes.

Learning objectives

  • Summarise the key drivers of pathophysiology in IBD and describe how these are targeted by available and investigational treatments
  • Describe the unmet needs associated with current methods of targeting inflammation and how this varies between class and treatment
  • Explain how differences in MoA may translate to differences in clinically relevant features (e.g. safety and efficacy, immunogenicity, drug–drug interactions)
  • Discuss optimum use of biomarkers in clinical practice and how this may change in the future
